Custom Totes

I love making custom tote bags and one-of-a-kind personalized diaper bags to give as special gifts. 

The very best pattern I've found, which is extremely easy to change and embellish, is the zippered "Pocket Tote" pattern from Timber Lane Press.  The instructions are clear and very easy to follow.  The finished tote is the perfect size for airline carry-on.

This pattern also teaches you how to make your own quilted fabric, which is much simpler than you might think.  While you can purchase pre-quilted fabric to use, by quilting your own your design possibilities are limitless!

Plan to spend about 40 hours total, start to finish, creating this bag, and you'll spend $50 to $75 in materials.  But it's well worth the time and expense.  The finished tote is sturdy, can be thrown right in your washer and dryer, and holds up to years of use.  My custom totes have sold for $150 to $250 depending on what embellishments and personalization were included.
